This is the timeframe when Elviss had done 2 concerts back to back, this is the description of the photo of why he is kneeling down:

Uncropped: Elvis exhausted and in a crouching position backstage at the Minneapolis Auditorium in Minneapolis, MN with Airman 3/C Edward Thornton (old Tupelo friend, stationed at Fort Snelling at the time) rubbing his neck on Sunday, May 13, 1956. Photo by Powell Krueger. Elvis had hit his head while throwing his guitar earlier in St Paul. Thornton is assisting during the headache which was aggravated while in Minneapolis.
